Mulled Wine

Directions
  1. Peel 3 strips of zest from the orange. Slice the remaining fruit, reserving 3-4 slices for garnish. Set aside.
  2. Toast the spices over medium-low heat for 1-2 minutes, until just aromatic.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. In a small piece of cheesecloth, place the spices and tie shut.
  5. In a medium saucepan, place the orange peel, orange slices, vanilla bean, spice pouch, maple syrup and wine.
  6. Place on burner over medium-low heat. Do NOT boil. If it starts to simmer, reduce heat to low.
  7. Steep for 20-30 minutes.
  8. Strain out orange peels, vanilla bean (if using) and spice pouch.
  9. Serve warm with a slice of the reserved orange slice and a fresh cinnamon stick.
