    Position Summary

    Responsible for developing staff, building connections with the public and is interested in the local food economy, nutrition and developing their retail leadership work experience.  This position will be focused on overseeing all operational aspects of our retail store, supervising employees, assisting our customers by providing information about our products, answering customer questions and supporting our various departments within the location.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Responsible for all day to day and long-term store operations
    • Responsible for effective recruiting, training, supervising and appraising of staff

    Job Description

    Position Summary

    Eligible candidates are those individuals who enjoy building connections with the public and are interested in the local food economy, nutrition, and building on their established teaching experience.  The position is focused on collaborative operations and instruction for all skill levels of cooking. The Culinary Mentor contributes to the mission of Basics Market by planning and recipe testing while mentoring patients, customers, and staff on selection and cookery of seasonal food products.

     

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • Plans, recipe tests, teaches cooking theory, methods and skills, presents cooking demos to Basics Market customers based on seasonal menus and recipes.
    • Stays informed of product schedules from our own and partner manufacturers, processors and farms;
    • Conducts onboarding and orientation for staff and staff training.
    • Ensures and instructs staff and customers are compliant with respect to food safety, sanitation and cleanliness while maintaining clean and organized auxiliary and work areas, stations, equipment and surfaces.
    • Instructs and ensures correct temperature for food ingredients throughout the processes of harvesting, receiving, cooking, holding, serving, and storing.
    • Works as a member of the Basics team to achieve sales, enrollment, cooking and nutrition class attendance goals. Strives to achieve individual and session sales goals.
    • Provides coaching and performance feedback to Kitchen Assistants and communicates performance matters to supervisor.
    • Ability to prepare concoctions; pour and serve non-alcohol beverages, spirits/cocktails, wine and beer; liquor, soda, water, coffee, teas, and other products to Basics Market customers and staff.
    • Models and maintains customer service, code of conduct, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the performance of assigned duties.
    • Executes additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

     

    • 2 Years minimum kitchen operations experience as, supervisor or manager and chef or sous chef
    • Prefer culinary educator experience, all levels – vocational, professional, academic or non-professional non-academic
    • Culinary degree or equivalent culinary experience.
    • Ability to effectively instruct, communicate, and demonstrate to others food preparation, cooking, culinary method, techniques & skills and basic nutrition concepts.
    • Ability to distinguish and articulate differences or similarities in intensity and quality of flavors or aromas, and able to identify flavors or aromas through taste and smell.
    • Ability to use hands to chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice and demonstrate cooking techniques.
    • Valid Food Handlers Certification or must acquire within 30 days of hire.
    • Must be at least 21 years old at time of hire and obtain and remain compliant with local Health, OLCC permits and with current knowledge of the laws and standards.
    • Ability to move about classroom settings, store facilities, general work place, and other assigned work areas that may be on or off Basics premises to instruct, coach, and direct staff, customers, students, volunteers, and participants.
    • Ability to work varied schedules, at different times of the day, work week, and holidays.
    • Must have working knowledge, skill, dexterity or means to such with computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners and mouse to accomplish work.

    Job Description

    Position Summary

    Our company is looking to fill the position of Nutrition Mentor.  Eligible candidates must be a Registered Dietitian who enjoys building connections with the public with interests in the local food economy, nutrition and building their teaching experience. The Nutrition Mentor contributes to the mission of Basics Market by mentoring patients, customers, and staff on nutrition and cooking education through seasonal selection and cookery of foods.

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • Lead and teach nutrition education classes ranging from general nutrition to specific health conditions that are offered by Basics Market to its customers
    • Assist and/or lead cooking demonstrations offered to customers.
    • Ability to teach classes jointly with other Basics team members, including cooking classes.
    • Assist with the development and review of nutrition education materials intended to be disseminated to Basics Market customers, ranging from general nutrition topics to specific health conditions.
    • Assist with recipe development and analysis, including preparation of materials intended for distribution to and dissemination by customers.
    • Provide educational tours of Basics Market to customers.
    • Provide sound nutritional guidance to customers that is based on established medically related standards, empirical and evidence-based research and is reflective of Basics mission and nutrition philosophy.
    • Collaborate with other members of the Basics team, including meeting participation, to ensure that quality services are being provided to customers and to support team development.
    • Models and maintains customer service, code of conduct, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the performance of assigned duties. are practiced and communicated effectively to customers, co-workers or students.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist via the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
    • Minimum of 3 years of Registered Dietitian experience with 1-year experience in community and/or teaching based nutrition setting creating content, organizing, and conducting group nutrition presentations and/or cooking demonstrations.
    • Basic culinary skills and experience.
    • Licensed Dietitian with the State of Oregon, or obtainable within 2 months of hire.
    • Current Oregon State Food Handlers Permit or obtainable within 1 month of hire.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work effectively with Basics staff, supervisors, students, volunteers, and customers.
    • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).

     

    Preferred Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    • Certified Diabetes Educator and related teaching experience.
    • Master’s Degree from an accredited university or college.

    Job Description

    Position Summary

    Our company is looking for a skilled Meat Manager to provide both strong supervisory support to our employees and high-quality meats and services to our customers. The Manager will perform quality inspections, use meat grinders, knives, saws, and other tools to cut meat down into smaller portions, weigh, price, and package cuts, and ensure that displays and signage are attractive and eye-catching. You will also speak to customers to determine their needs, provide advice regarding proper cuts of meat and preparation methods, and coordinate pickups or deliveries.  The Manager will also provide coaching, feedback and performance management for all staff in the Meat Department.

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • recruiting, training, supervising and appraising staff
    • managing budgets
    • maintaining financial records
    • dealing with customer queries and complaints
    • overseeing pricing and stock control
    • ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
    • Provide exceptional customer service through informing, listening and engaging with our customers.
    • Assist in maintaining retail expectations, back room conditions and ensuring a positive and safe customer experience.
    • At times, supporting all other departments within the store including Grocery, Cashiering, Produce and Café.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    1. GED or equivalent High School Diploma, college degree preferred
    2. 2 years retail Meat Department management experience
    3. Ability to work weekends and holidays
    4. Ability to work and communicate well on a team
    5. Strong written and verbal communication skills
