  • Maintenance Technician

    The Maintenance Technician works closely with the engineering team to address and resolve Basics’ equipment and manufacturing obstacles and mechanical/electrical problems. Performs routine preventive maintenance while minimizing store and equipment downtime. Provides maintenance support for other facilities as needed.

    Essential Functions
    This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities.
    • Primary role is to provide technical and maintenance support to the Basics’ team.
    • Secondary roles include but not limited to troubleshoot problems and eliminate manufacturing constraints in all other entities across Wild Rose Foods.
    • Utilize technical skills and knowledge in electrical/electronics (PLCs, A/C and D/C motors and drives, control logic, schematics and troubleshooting) to support continuous process manufacturing and achieve machine uptime metrics.
    • Maintain necessary parts and maintenance supplies in an organized manner.
    • Implement and document plant preventative maintenance.
    • Demonstrate high level of safety focus and awareness via maintenance actions and support within the facility.
    • Establish positive rapport and provide proactive customer service to all production employees and the operations team.
    • Attention to detail in completing work tasks, cooperative attitude and being reliable and responsible.
    • Supports QA department to ensure implementation of maintenance procedures to protect food product.
    • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of farm equipment.
    • Ensure all processes, procedures and maintenance work and equipment are compliant with state and federal regulations.
    • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during scheduled downtime.
    • Maintain electronic records on all maintenance, repairs to machines, and inventory of equipment and facility.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
    • Subject to “on call” depending upon the urgency of the situation.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    1. GED or equivalent high school diploma.
    2. Experience in understanding technical specifications and schematics.
    3. Minimum 2 years of previous plant maintenance experience working with electrical and mechanical equipment.
    4. Ability to work weekends and holidays.
    5. Ability to work and communicate well on a team.
    6. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    7. Intermediate computer skills preferred on programs such as Outlook, Word, and a CMMS.

  • Cheesemonger (Hillsdale Location)

    We have an opening for a full-time Cheesemonger who will be responsible for helping customers with cheese selections and pairings, sales generation within the department, maintaining food safety and quality control, and merchandising of specialty cheese products. They are also responsible for stocking and receiving cheese — cutting, wrapping, pricing cheese, and general care. Additionally, the Cheesemonger is responsible for maintaining an organized back stock area, tending to and maintaining the product in our aging rooms and keeping the cheese section organized. The Cheesemonger should stay informed on all current cheese information including regions, different milk types, ages, styles, terminology, current trends, and help to disseminate this information to customers and other staff members.

     

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Maintain our aging cases and inventory.
    • Maintain an organized and properly rotated cheese section and storage spaces.
    • Ensure that all products are properly priced
    • Ensure that all cheeses have accurate signage – with the name of the cheese, the milk type, rennet type, and a brief description of the product. Maintain organized storage of signage.
    • Remain current on all cheese-related information by attending tastings, taking notes, and asking questions.
    • Maintains professional vendor relationships.

     

    Additional Position-Specific Responsibilities  

    • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
    • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
    • Cleans, trims, packages, prices, rotates and stocks department products.
    • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
    • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of products throughout the department and understanding of culinary terminology, product labeling and common dietary restrictions.
    • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
    • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.

    • May participate in other activities, such as inventories.

    Job Description

    Eligible candidates are those individuals who enjoy building connections with the public and are interested in the local food economy, nutrition, and building on their established culinary experience.  The position is focused on collaborative operations and production for market resale foods for the Basics market system. The Commissary Cook contributes to the mission of Basics market by planning, preparing and recipe testing while working directly with customers and staff for the service and cookery of seasonal food products.

     

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • Prepares products for Basics market customers, system wide or locations, based on seasonal menus and recipes.
    • Stays informed of product schedules and reproduces product to specification.
    • Helps the commissary operations manager onboard and orient new staff while assisting with training.
    • Ensures compliance with respect to food safety, sanitation and cleanliness while maintaining clean and organized auxiliary and work areas, stations, equipment and surfaces.
    • Maintains and ensures correct temperature for food ingredients throughout the processes of harvesting, receiving, cooking, holding, serving, and storing while completing required documentation of such.
    • Works as a member of the Basics team to achieve market sales goals.
    • Models and maintains customer service, code of conduct, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the performance of assigned duties.
    • Executes additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
    • Completes required administrative duties in a timely fashion; HACCP controls, sanitation records time worked, accurately and according to Basics policy.
    • Ability to interact successfully with the general public.

     

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

    • 2 years industry-related experience.
    • Ability to distinguish and articulate differences or similarities in intensity and quality of flavors or aromas, and able to identify flavors or aromas through taste and smell.
    • Ability to use hands to chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice and demonstrate cooking techniques.
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid Food Handlers Certification or must acquire within 30 days of hire.
    • Ability to move about workspace settings, store facilities, general work place, and other assigned work areas that may be on or off Basics premises to prepare foods; assist Market Chef to coach and direct interns, externs or apprentices, staff, customers, students, volunteers, and participants.
    • Must have working knowledge, skill, dexterity or means to such with scales, labeling, merchandise scanners or ability to master new equipment for the purpose of transacting with customers to accomplish work.
