    Position Summary

    Responsible for developing staff, building connections with the public and is interested in the local food economy, nutrition and developing their retail leadership work experience.  This position will be focused on overseeing all operational aspects of our retail store, supervising employees, assisting our customers by providing information about our products, answering customer questions and supporting our various departments within the location.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Responsible for all day to day and long-term store operations
    • Responsible for effective recruiting, training, supervising and appraising of staff

    Position Summary

    Eligible candidates are those individuals who enjoy building connections with the public and are interested in the local food economy, nutrition, and building on their established teaching experience.  The position is focused on collaborative operations and instruction for all skill levels of cooking. The Culinary Mentor contributes to the mission of Basics Market by planning and recipe testing while mentoring patients, customers, and staff on selection and cookery of seasonal food products.

     

    Job Responsibilities and Duties

    • Plans, recipe tests, teaches cooking theory, methods and skills, presents cooking demos to Basics Market customers based on seasonal menus and recipes.
    • Stays informed of product schedules from our own and partner manufacturers, processors and farms;
    • Conducts onboarding and orientation for staff and staff training.
    • Ensures and instructs staff and customers are compliant with respect to food safety, sanitation and cleanliness while maintaining clean and organized auxiliary and work areas, stations, equipment and surfaces.
    • Instructs and ensures correct temperature for food ingredients throughout the processes of harvesting, receiving, cooking, holding, serving, and storing.
    • Works as a member of the Basics team to achieve sales, enrollment, cooking and nutrition class attendance goals. Strives to achieve individual and session sales goals.
    • Provides coaching and performance feedback to Kitchen Assistants and communicates performance matters to supervisor.
    • Ability to prepare concoctions; pour and serve non-alcohol beverages, spirits/cocktails, wine and beer; liquor, soda, water, coffee, teas, and other products to Basics Market customers and staff.
    • Models and maintains customer service, code of conduct, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the performance of assigned duties.

    Required Qualifications and Skills:

     

    • 2 Years minimum kitchen operations experience as, supervisor or manager and chef or sous chef
    • Prefer culinary educator experience, all levels – vocational, professional, academic or non-professional non-academic
    • Culinary degree or equivalent culinary experience.
    • Ability to effectively instruct, communicate, and demonstrate to others food preparation, cooking, culinary method, techniques & skills and basic nutrition concepts.
    • Ability to distinguish and articulate differences or similarities in intensity and quality of flavors or aromas, and able to identify flavors or aromas through taste and smell.
    • Ability to use hands to chop, whisk, slice, stir, juice and demonstrate cooking techniques.
    • Valid Food Handlers Certification or must acquire within 30 days of hire.
    • Must be at least 21 years old at time of hire and obtain and remain compliant with local Health, OLCC permits and with current knowledge of the laws and standards.
    • Ability to move about classroom settings, store facilities, general work place, and other assigned work areas that may be on or off Basics premises to instruct, coach, and direct staff, customers, students, volunteers, and participants.

    Position Summary

    We have an opening for a full-time Cheesemonger who will be responsible for helping customers with cheese selections and pairings, sales generation within the department, maintaining food safety and quality control, and merchandising of specialty cheese products. They are also responsible for stocking and receiving cheese — cutting, wrapping, pricing cheese, and general care. Additionally, the Cheesemonger is responsible for maintaining an organized back stock area, tending to and maintaining the product in our aging rooms and keeping the cheese section organized. The Cheesemonger should stay informed on all current cheese information including regions, different milk types, ages, styles, terminology, current trends, and help to disseminate this information to customers and other staff members.

The Market Chef contributes to the mission of Basics Market by planning, preparing and recipe testing while working directly with customers and staff for the service and cookery of seasonal food products.

    Primary Responsibilities
