    Responsible for building connections with the public and building their retail and meat department work experience. This position will be focused on supporting all aspects of our Meat & Seafood department, assisting our customers by providing information about our products, answering customer questions and supporting our various departments within the location. Demonstrates a commitment to providing customers with exceptional service.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities
    General

    • Handles customer purchases with care and attention to detail throughout transaction.
    • Provides exceptional customer service through sampling, informing, listening, and engaging with our customers.
    • Operates the cash register, with a focus on friendliness, accuracy, and efficiency.
    • Assists in maintaining a clean and organized Meat & Seafood department and backroom conditions, ensuring a positive and safe customer experience.
    • Follows all food and work safety guidelines.
    • Ability to interact successfully with the general public.
    • Assists with other departments and at other Basics locations as needed.
    • Contributes to a positive and supportive work environment.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as cooperatively within a team.

    Education and Qualification Requirements

    • GED or equivalent High School Diploma, college degree preferred.

  • Front End Lead (Hillsdale Location)

    Responsible for assisting with the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the store’s front end department, including managing employees and ensuring customers have a positive experience. Builds connections with the public and interested in the local food economy, nutrition and building their retail work experience. The position will focus on assisting our customers by providing information about products, answering customer questions, and supporting our various departments within the location.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Assist with the coordination and oversight of all front-end activities of store, manages customer requests and complaints, and ensures all employees are working in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Maintains optimal level of customer services and ensures optimal satisfaction and analyze all issues and provide effective resolution.
    • Analyzes performance of all front-end associates and vendors and provides appropriate feedback.
    • Ensure compliance to all front-end policies and procedures for company.
    • Schedules work for all associates, ensures optimal level of security at store on all times and evaluate all processes for store.
    • Informs customers on upcoming events and programs for various cost saving promotions.
    • Operates the cash register, with a focus on kindness, accuracy, and efficiency.
    • Handles customer purchases with care and attention to detail throughout transaction and bagging and provides/offers carry out service when applicable.
    • Handles cash, opens and closes tills, and performs coin exchanges.
    • Facilitates and processes returns and exchanges with trust, kindness and patience. Notifies store leadership when necessary.
    • Ensures the availability of shopping carts, including motorized carts, near the entrance and minimizes the presence of shopping carts in the parking lot.
    • Kindly welcomes as many customers as possible, as they enter the store and thanks as many customers as possible, as they exit the store.
    • Maintains awareness of potential incident risks in parking lot, garden center, store lobby and sales floor, and notifies store leadership, security, or law enforcement when necessary.
    • Provides exceptional customer service through sampling, informing, listening and engaging with our customers.
    • Assists in maintaining retail floor, exterior property and back-room conditions, ensuring a positive and safe customer experience.
    • Works in and supports all departments within the store including Meat, Grocery, Cashiering, Produce and Café.
    • Maintains clean, sanitary, and well stocked customer restrooms.
    • Follows all food and work safety guidelines.
    • Assists with other departments and at other Basics locations as needed.

     

    Additional Position-Specific Responsibilities

    • Guides the work of department clerks, including daily planning, ensuring quality standards, training and coaching staff and overseeing their productivity.
    • Reports any training issues and ensure staff are up to date on current training needs and requirements.
    • Monitors all work, ensures adherence to all policies and procedures and provides training to staff.
    • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
    • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
    • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of customer facing and back stock areas.

  • Deli Clerk (Hillsdale Location)

    This position will be focused on the operation of the Prepared Foods Department, assisting our customers by providing information about our products, assisting in food production, answering customer questions and supporting our various departments within the location. Also responsible for building connections with the public and is interested in the local food economy, nutrition and developing their retail leadership work experience.

    Position-Specific Responsibilities

    • Prepares ready-to-eat foods for sale per specifications from the Market Chef or Culinary Mentor.
    • Cutting and wrapping of cheese products.
    • Slicing and packaging deli meats.
    • Washing dishes and other tools used.
    • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
